Duties

  • You will maintain collections in accordance with federal requirements and appropriate to the materials.
  • You will manage the Combat Center's regional Curation Center (Archaeological and Paleontological Curation Center) and surrounding grounds for preservation and interpretation of collections.
  • You will provide interpretive experiences to the on-base and off-base community, such as hosting school trips and other events.
  • You will implement research, survey, monitoring, restoration/rehabilitation, and other tasks supporting field analysis of cultural materials.
  • You will coordinate with stakeholders on and off the Combat Center for input on curation practices.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Accessing, organizing, documenting inventory collections AND managing facilities housing museum, archeological, paleontological/history collections.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:

  1. Degree: museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field.

    OR

  2. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

    OR

  3. Four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study as shown in A above.
Applicants can qualify for this position through education substitution. To qualify for this position through education substitution, applicant must possess:

3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree

OR

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
