Job Title: Housekeeper

Location: MCAGCC Twentynine Palms, CA / NAWS China Lake, CA

Job Type: Part-Time

Schedule: Varies by site operational needs; may include weekends and holidays

General Summary:

Performs routine cleaning and housekeeping duties in assigned facilities, including barracks, offices, common areas, and other government spaces, to maintain a clean, sanitary, and orderly environment in accordance with contract standards and applicable safety requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs, buffs, and vacuums floors and carpeted areas.
  • Dusts and wipes down furniture, fixtures, windowsills, and other surfaces.
  • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and fixtures, and restocks supplies.
  • Empties trash and recycling receptacles and replaces liners.
  • Cleans windows, glass partitions, and mirrors as assigned.
  • Makes beds, changes linens, and performs light laundry duties where applicable.
  • Reports maintenance issues, safety hazards, or supply shortages to the supervisor.
  • Follows established procedures for the use, storage, and disposal of cleaning chemicals and materials.
  • Maintains cleaning equipment and carts in good working order.
  • Performs other housekeeping duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred; not required.
  • Prior housekeeping, janitorial, or custodial experience preferred but not required; on-the-job training provided.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions from a supervisor or lead.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and safe handling of cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.

Work Environment:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25-35 lbs., bend, stoop, kneel, and stand for extended periods.
  • Frequent walking and repetitive motion tasks (mopping, wiping, vacuuming).
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and varying indoor temperatures; appropriate PPE will be provided.
  • Work is performed primarily indoors at government facilities on a military installation.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug screening. Employees must be able to obtain and maintain any base/installation access credentials required by the location.

California-Specific Provisions:

  • Pay Scale: $17.79 per hour, disclosed in accordance with California Labor Code § 432.3 (SB 1162).
  • Wage Order: This position is classified under California Industrial Welfare Commission Wage Order 5 (Public Housekeeping Industry).
  • Meal and Rest Periods: Employees are provided a duty-free meal period of at least 30 minutes for shifts over 5 hours (a second meal period applies for shifts over 10 hours), and a paid 10-minute rest break for every 4 hours worked (or major fraction thereof), in accordance with California Labor Code § 512 and the applicable IWC Wage Order.
  • Paid Sick Leave: Employees accrue paid sick leave in accordance with California's Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act, at a minimum of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked, with a minimum usage cap of 40 hours (5 days) per year, in addition to any sick leave required under the Service Contract Act / Executive Order 13706, whichever is greater.
  • Heat Illness Prevention: For work involving indoor or outdoor heat exposure, the Company complies with Cal/OSHA's Heat Illness Prevention standards (8 CCR § 3395 and § 3396), including access to water, shade or cooling areas, and rest breaks as needed to prevent heat illness.
  • Workers' Compensation: Employees are covered by workers' compensation insurance in accordance with California Labor Code requirements. Report any work-related injury or illness to your supervisor immediately.
  • Notice to Employee: Upon hire, employees will receive all California-required new hire notices, including the Wage Theft Prevention Act notice (Labor Code § 2810.5), sexual harassment prevention information, and applicable Wage Order postings.
  • Sexual Harassment Prevention Training: Non-supervisory employees will complete at least 1 hour of sexual harassment prevention training, and supervisors at least 2 hours, within the timeframes required under California Government Code § 12950.1.
