10-Month Tenure Track Position

COMPENSATION: 
Initial salary placement ranges from $67,886 to $106,308, based upon education and experience. The current faculty salary schedule includes five classes and twenty steps with a maximum annual salary of $142,425. A District-paid comprehensive benefit package which includes medical, dental and vision insurances for the employee and dependents, and a $50,000 employee life insurance policy are provided. Representative Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work with students to develop comprehensive, individualized educational program plans. 
  • Assist in the implementation of Student Equity and Achievement activities, such as orientation, placement, and progress follow-up including Early Alert. 
  • Participate in developing and implementing strategies and materials to increase student retention and transfer rates.
  • Select and interpret educational, vocational, and personal assessment instruments. 
  • Participate in evaluation of students’ credit for prior learning. 
  • Facilitate group counseling sessions.
  • Present workshops on a variety of topics. 
  • Teach guidance classes in career planning, re-entry, and academic success. 
  • Provide personal, academic, career and vocational counseling services to a diverse student population.
  • Counsel/advise students, teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned. 
  • Promote the success of diverse student population through the use of effective counseling/advisement methods, models, and strategies and through the use of effective teaching modalities. 
  • Victor Valley College has implemented Guided Pathways. Goals for Guided Pathways are to create a more engaging experience for students, close the achievement gap, and ensure increased student successThis position will provide case-management and intentional interventions as a part of a Student Success Team for an assigned pathway. 
  • Counsel students in the appropriate academic and vocational aspects of their pathway; provide academic advising and counseling to an identified caseload. 
  • Outreach/liaison to local high schools and community agencies. 
  • Participate in all levels of program review related to counseling and matriculation services. 
  • Plan to develop or implement programs related to counseling. 
  • Participate in program and curriculum development. 
  • Effectively utilize current information technologies including OER Open Educational Resources and ZTC Zero Textbook Costs resources. 
  • Comply with Title 5 and District policies and procedures in the performance of all duties. 
  • Participate in staff development activities. 
  • Serve on area and college-wide committees as necessary to support and enrich college programs, activities, and initiatives. 
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to, understanding of, and experience working with students and colleagues of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, ethnic, and historically underserved backgrounds.
  • Participate in assessment, evaluation, and planning of Student Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes, Program Review, Curriculum Development.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling, OR the equivalent.

(NOTE: A bachelor's degree in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • California Community College academic and career counseling experience.

Must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: 

Office, classroom, lab and/or on-line environment. Position requires ability to communicate and exchange information. The assignment may include day, weekend, and/or evening classes on campus and/or at off campus locations. Position requires ability and schedule flexibility to accommodate active participation in College and Department Outreach Events such as College and Career Fairs and College and Community Presentations.
