Job Summary:

The Janitor is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and order in a designated area, ensuring that facilities are sanitary, safe, and welcoming for all occupants. This role includes a variety of tasks such as cleaning, sanitizing, and light maintenance. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, reliable, and able to work independently or as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities: Cleaning, Maintenance, and Special Projects

  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and mirrors.
  • Empty trash and recycling bins and ensure proper disposal.
  • Dust and clean surfaces, including desks, tables, and windowsills.
  • Wash windows and glass doors.
  • Clean and maintain kitchen and break areas.
  • Perform routine inspections to identify areas needing cleaning or maintenance.
  • Replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
  • Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the Custodial Project Manager.
  • Assist with light maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs and minor repairs.
  • Assist with setup and cleanup for events and meetings.
  • Perform seasonal tasks such as snow removal and salting walkways in winter.
  • Ensure all areas comply with health and safety standards.
  • Follow established cleaning procedures and schedules.
  • Maintain a clean and organized storage area for cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.

Essential Functions:

  • Capable of standing, walking, squatting, bending, twisting, kneeling, and reaching continuously throughout a shift.
  • Capable of pushing and pulling a maid cart, linen cart, or various equipment (over 100 lb.) continuously throughout a shift.
  • Able to lift 0 – 40 lb. frequently.
  • Must be able to handle/interact with all chemicals used (i.e., bleach, wax, Virex, etc.).
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and even other hours as needed per assigned area.
  • Must have communication skills in English.
  • Attendance is required to be successful.
