Material Handler (Contract Role)

Job Description

*** THIS IS AN ONSITE CONTRACT ROLE BASED OUT OF OUR LANCASTER, MA FACILITY ***

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

1. Core Receiving Responsibilities

 * Unloading Shipments: Operating forklifts, electric pallet jacks, or manually unloading trailers and containers.

 * Verification (The "Check"): Comparing physical goods against the Packing Slip and Purchase Order (PO). This involves verifying quantities, SKU numbers, and descriptions.

 * Quality Inspection: Checking for "concealed damage," crushed boxes, or leaks. In specialized warehouses (like food or pharma), this includes checking temperatures and expiration dates.

 * Documentation: Signing the driver’s Bill of Lading (BOL) but noting any "shorts" (missing items) or "damages" before the driver leaves to ensure the company isn't liable for vendor errors.

2. Inventory & System Entry

 * Data Entry: Using a Warehouse Management System (WMS) or handheld RF scanners to "receive" the items into the system so they become available for sale or use.

 * Labeling/Tagging: Applying internal barcodes, "License Plate" (LP) tags, or slotting labels to pallets so they can be tracked throughout the warehouse.

 * Discrepancy Reporting: Formally reporting overages, shortages, or damages (OS&D) to the purchasing or inventory department.

3. Staging & Put-away

 * Staging: Organizing incoming goods in a designated "Receiving Lane" to be cleared for the stocking team.

 * Cross-Docking: Identifying "hot" items that are needed immediately for outgoing orders and moving them directly to the shipping dock, bypassing long-term storage.

 * Sorting: Breaking down mixed pallets into individual SKUs for easier put-away.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

* Minimum of 1 year of experience in warehousing / receiving operations.

* Computer literate.

* Basic Math.

* Attention to Detail: Missing one digit on a part number can lead to thousands of dollars in lost inventory.

* This position involves lifting items up to 50–70 lbs and being on your feet for extended periods (8–10 hours), as part of regular job duties.

* Equipment Certification preferred: Electric/Manual Pallet Jacks.
