Job Summary

The Motor Vehicle Mechanic repairs, rebuilds, and overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion vehicles, including automobiles, buses, trucks, and tractors.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose the source of mechanical trouble and determine the extent of necessary repairs
• Replace worn or damaged parts such as piston rings, bearings, and other engine components
• Grind and adjust valves
• Rebuild carburetors
• Overhaul transmissions
• Repair fuel injection systems
• Repair lighting and ignition systems

Qualifications

The position requires well-rounded training and experience, typically obtained through:

• Completion of a formal apprenticeship program, or
• Equivalent hands-on training and work experience
