Summary
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Incumbent will serve as a Supervisory Police Officer (CLE) located at Fort Irwin CA.
- Conduct investigations and prepare reports on violations of environmental, fish, and game laws.
- Conduct patrols and physical security inspections of installation perimeters and remote areas.
- Supervise subordinate personnel including work assignment, performance evaluation, and training.
- Detect violations, conduct searches, seizures, and apprehend suspects.
- Conduct community relations to promote awareness of laws and regulations.
Conditions of employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Meet and maintain requirements of Individual Reliability Program (IRP) IAW AR 190-56.
- Incumbent must be able to pass a pre-appointment physical and is subject to periodic (e.g. annual) medical examinations following appointment to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position.
- Pass annual physical agility test requirements.
- Be certified to use police weapons, equipment, cameras, crime scene evidence collecting equipment, and automated police information retrieval systems.
- Possess and continue to maintain a valid driverβs license.
- Possess and continue to maintain a SECRET level security clearance.
- This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program.
- Must be able to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other associated equipment.
- Successfully graduate from DA Police Academy or have received equivalent academic credit.
- Be qualified and certified in the use of all assigned weapons and police related equipment which may include chemical aerosol irritants and LESD.
- State certification, if required, for radar and breathalyzer operations.
- This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
- The position is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, overtime, weekends and/or holiday work schedules.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential"
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) of 5%

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Enforced natural resource laws by conducting patrols and collecting evidence to support regulatory actions; 2) Investigated environmental and wildlife violations by interviewing witnesses and documenting findings; and 3) Maintained case files to support enforcement investigations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
