Summary

The Heavy Equipment Technician (Yellow Iron) reports to the Maintenance Supervisor. The Heavy Equipment Technician is personally responsible for performing complex preventative maintenance tasks, and troubleshoots and repairs a wide variety of operational equipment (Trucks and Yellow Iron)

Job Description

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned. Repairs as needed equipment (including, but not limited to, Track Type Tractors, Wheel Compactors, front-end loaders, haul trucks, tractors, forklifts, and company support vehicles).
  • Diagnoses and repairs engines, hydraulic systems, powertrain components, air conditioning systems, and electrical systems.
  • Performs tasks per preventative maintenance schedule and guidelines.
  • Completes records such as work orders, P.M. checklists, and oil samples.
  • Services and maintains other equipment such as light plants, water pumps, welders, and other equipment.
  • Reference site-specific procedures and more detailed site-specific job descriptions.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3 years' experience in maintenance & repair of diesel heavy equipment (yellow iron).
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Ability to effectively troubleshoot and identify electrical/mechanical issues and complete in a safe timely manner.
  • Perform all tasks safely and in accordance with applicable OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Consistently behaves in a manner that is appropriate and professional.
  • Ability to read and comprehend service manuals, electrical and hydraulic schematics etc.
  • Computer diagnostic skills.
  • CDL Class A / B with air brake endorsement.
  • Acceptable Driving Record.
  • Must possess personal tools.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Problem solving, oral communication, analytical ability

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual English / Spanish
  • Welder Certification - Full fabrication knowledge (Mig/Tig/Arc/Oxy Acetylene/brazing etc.)
  • Knowledge of MS Office & Outlook

Physical/Environmental Demands:

  • Physical:
    • Standing, walking, seeing, hearing, & smelling continuously.
    • Problem solving, oral communication, analytical ability, concentration, exposure to heavy machinery, & eye/hand coordination, & handling continuously.
    • Bending, reaching, stretching, crouching, & lifting ≤ 50 Lbs. continuously.
    • Exposure to unprotected heights occasionally.

  • Environmental:
    • Exposure to dust, smoke, fumes, odors, grease, oil, chemicals, wet slippery surfaces, hot/cold conditions, & noise continuously.
    • Works inside and outside.

Hourly Range: $34.81 - $38.42

Schedule: 6AM - 4:00PM Mon - Fri (Work Every other Saturday)
