JOB SUMMARY:

The Human Resource Specialist will assist with labor relations and human resources matters, gathering, collecting, and maintaining documents and records required for contract and policy development, investigations, and negotiations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND TASKS:

The following list of functions, duties, and tasks is typical for this position. Handles routine employee relations and human resource inquiries related to policies and procedures; refers complex matters to appropriate management staff.

Serves as the initial contact and liaison for intake and assessment of employee matters and complaints.

Conducts initial interviews and gathers information for employee relations matters such as harassment allegations, work complaints, or other concerns; informs Executive Director when additional investigation is required.

Assists with recordkeeping related to hiring, termination, leave, transfer, and promotion.

Collects information and data that impacts policies and disputes. This may include management, pay scales and wages, benefits, working conditions, and other mitigating circumstances.

Conducts surveys, interviews, and other research related to human resource policies, compensation, and other employee matters; collects information and reports results to the Executive Director.

Maintains knowledge and understanding of laws and regulations related to EEO, affirmative action, employee relations, and human resources.

Assists with preparation of plans, policies, documents, organizational charts, agreements, and employee handbooks.

Assists with preparation of documents and records required for employee management.

Maintain a positive and productive work environment.

Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.

Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Thorough understanding of laws, regulations, and guidelines related to HR including, but not limited to employee relations, policies and procedures, accommodations and investigations.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

JOB QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:

Must have cultural intelligence as evidenced by shared lived experience and background living and/or working in the primary cultures and communities served by Project Joy. Demonstrated understanding of adult learning principles and experience in delivering training or educational programs. Proficiency in using technology tools and platforms. Lived experience related to systems of housing, poverty, child welfare, juvenile justice, education and/or health, desirable. Passion for the organization's mission and a commitment to social justice and community empowerment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field required.

At least three years of professional human resource administration required with experience in employee relations preferred.

SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS AND TESTING REQUIRED:

After offer of employment, obtain:

Criminal Justice and FBI Fingerprint Clearance
